Post Socket 1366 motherboard that doesn't lick my balls?
Currently looking to upgrade this socket 939 system from 2006 :D Found parts I want so far:

 • Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping
 • Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU cooler
 • OCZ 3x2GB DDR3-PC12800 1600MHz "OCZ3P1600LV6GK"
 • Lian Li PC-7FNWX Aluminium Mid Tower Case - Black (will probably be hard to get hold of at less than £roflolol)
 • Lian Li PT-AF14-1B 140mm Case Top Fan Guard / Filter (will be even harder to get hold of)
 • FractalDesign 140mm Silent Series Cooling Fan (to go on top)

Going to OC this i7 obviously, hence the 1600MHz RAM. I'll probably go as close to 4 GHz as I can as many noobs appear to have done that successfully according to Google (lolsearched).

Anyway, I'm looking for a motherboard but currently all the ones I've looked at suck. What I need:

 • ATX sized
 • 2 PCI-E 16X slots that both run at 16X (I use SLI)
 • 2+ PCI-E 1X slots (sound and TV card)
 • 2x Gigabit Ethernet
 • No PCI slots because nobody wants them any more ok
 • Don't need a floppy disk drive any more
 • Don't care about on board sound, I won't be using it
 • Having USB 3.0 / SATA 3 (they seem to come together from the same chipset?) would be nice
 • Under a million pounds

Any thoughts?

The main issue I've come across is that I can't use any PCI-E 1X cards without it kicking one or both of the PCI-E 16X slots down to 8X or some even down to 4X. I will be using SLI like I am now btw. Going to need two 1X slots for an Asus Xonar sound card, and a DVB-T tuner card.

Ah, the joys of motherboard hunting - actually I was more stressed trying to find a good motherboard than doing uni work at the time. If it had something good, it had something annoyingly bad, or was very expensive.

The best way I could find one before was to start with something it absolutely had to have - in this case, a lot of expansion slots. Anything which had less I wouldn't even look at. That seriously narrowed it down. Eventually there was only a few that it could be.

I did find one or two, but only at the ATX-XL size... you need a house just to accommodate a case that size itself.
